Welcome to Frog-Tastic, where frogs rule, critters conquer, and my wife wonders where it all went wrong!

The Beginning: Two Hermit Crabs and a Surprisingly Expanding Hobby

It all started innocently enough with two hermit crabs. Just two. They were supposed to be an easy pet, maybe a quirky conversation starter. Little did I know they would multiply, dragging me into a world of pet tanks, habitat upgrades, and late-night Googling about “hermit crab penthouses.” Eventually, my two hermits became ten, and I built them a two-story mansion—the lower level, a sprawling 75-gallon crab haven, and the top, a luxurious 40-gallon penthouse with prime ocean views (or at least, tank-wall views).

From Hermits to Geckos: A Critter Addiction Takes Hold

Once the hermits were cozy, my critter addiction kicked into full gear. Enter the crested geckos—one was cute, but why stop there? They quickly became two. After that, three American green tree frogs moved in, followed by a green anole, a leopard gecko, and a charismatic blue cobalt dart frog. My house started to feel like Noah’s Ark, and, to be fair, Noah probably didn’t have to justify his “animal rescue mission” to a spouse.

The Ark at Home: Frogs, Anoles, and the Growing Menagerie

Then came the big ones: four Phyllobates bicolor dart frogs. I didn’t know it at the time, but these four would be the most prolific amphibian matchmakers on Earth. About a year after they moved in, they started dropping eggs like there was no tomorrow. And not just a few eggs—tons of eggs. Before I knew it, I was staring at over 40 tadpoles, all turning into little froglets with big personalities. I had my hands full of frogs, and, let’s be honest, my wife was not thrilled.

The Dart Frog Invasion: How Four Frogs Turned Into 40+

Realizing she’d probably veto keeping 40-plus baby frogs, I decided to share the love (and the frogs) through Frog-Tastic, my site for all things frog and critter care. Now, I sell frogs to new, unsuspecting enthusiasts and share everything I’ve learned along the way.

And yes, while my wife still says, “No more critters,” they somehow keep hopping, slithering, or crawling their way in. If you’re here, you probably get it—there’s always room for one more little friend… or 40.
